In a battle of unbeatens, it was Bradford beating Punxsutawney for the first time in four years, 99-51 on senior day for the Owls.
Brayden Frair once again led the way for the Owls, taking first in the 1600 (4:28.20), 800 (2:03.08) and running anchor on both the winning 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams.
“He had an outstanding day,” said Bradford coach Tom Tessena.
Logan Kohler had a big day as well on the track for the Owls, racing to victory in both the 110 (15.72) and 300 (41.68) hurdles, while also notching a personal best in the 200 (23.82).
The 4×400 relay team also consisted of Danny Marasco, Enzo Aiello and Kadyn Tessena, while the 4×800 relay team included Leo Paterniti, Joe Caruso and Tessena.
“Our 4×100 relay team of Logan Kohler, Fabian Sherk, Jeremiah Long and Tyler Simmons ran their best time of the year (45.56),” noted Tessena.
In addition to running a leg on the 4×400 relay, Marasco also won the long jump and finished second in the triple jump, an event that was won by Sherk.
Aiello, meanwhile, won the pole vault as well.
The Owls’ throwers were also in top form, as Patrick French won the shot put with a season-best throw of 45-2, and sophomore Andrew Giordano won the javelin and had his best throw in the shot put (44-5).
“Teammates Joe Cary and Jeremiah Long also posted personal bests of 133-2 and 124-4 in the javelin,” noted Tessena. “Freshman Landon Davenport was second in the discus (102-6) and Joe Cary was third (100-5). Freshman Evan Soto posted his best in the pole Vault (11-6). Marcus Terwilliger placed second in the long jump with a best-ever jump of 19-7. He also had a best of 38-1 in the triple jump and placed third in the 300 hurdles. Chase Wineberg had a great time in the 100 hurdles (15.76) narrowly losing to Logan. He also took second in the high jump with 6-2 and lost on one more miss than the Punxsy guy. He had an incredible jump at 6-’4, barely knocking the bar off with his hand.”
Elsewhere, freshman Evan Troisi won the 3200 (11:08.85). He was followed closely by Caruso (11:18.2). Caruso also took third in the 400 (57.3).
The race of the day came in the last running event, the 4×400 relay.
“Danny Marasco started it off by staying close to the Punxsy guy,” Tessena said. “Enzo Aiello ran the second leg, filling in for Leo Paterniti. He handed off to Kadyn Tessena who moved us back to even, making up a 30-meter deficit. He got the baton to Frair who did his job and brought it home for the victory.”
The Owls now turn their attention to districts on May 17 at Brookville, with a big win in the books to close the regular season
“We had many other personal best performances and that’s always good,” Tessena said. “Punxsy was undefeated, and we hadn’t beaten them in four years, so this was a good day for us. Our goal was to win districts and that is what we are focusing on now. We have a few guys that we have to get back to full strength by May 17. They should be ready to go by then.
“I think the coaches have done a great job this season. Coach Stillman in the jumps, coach Obermeyer in the pole vault, coach Faulkner in the distances and coach Cercone in the throws. Today showed how hard these people have worked. Our guys have done their job and have to keep working hard to make our ultimate goal.”
