A Smethport man was sent to McKean County Jail Tuesday on allegations of threatening to burn a house down and abusing a dog.
Ronald Thompson, 28, of Christian Hollow Road, is charged with terroristic threats, cruelty to animals, two counts of simple assault, escape, resisting arrest, all misdemeanors; and harassment and disorderly conduct, summary offenses.
According to the criminal complaint, at 7:44 a.m. Dec. 26, state police were dispatched to a domestic incident at Thompson’s residence. The female caller said Thompson was “out of control and threatening to burn the house down.”
When police arrived, the female victim said Thompson woke her up at 4 a.m. complaining that he was out of some things he needed, that he became irate and threw the dog down the stairs “trying to break the dog’s neck,” the complaint stated. He also stabbed the dog in the head with a fork, causing surface wounds. The woman said she got between Thompson and the dog to attempt to calm the situation, but he picked up a knife, rushed at her and demanded the dog, threatening violence against her and the animal, the complaint stated.
He then started stabbing the wall with the knife, began to threaten her again, held a lighter by the couch and threatened to burn the house down. She tried to stop him again, and he kicked her, and told her if anyone came to the house — like police — he would kill everyone in the house, the complaint stated.
About 10 minutes later, state police came, and Thompson struggled with them while they were placing him in custody. When they put him in the patrol car for transport, he kept unbuckling his seatbelt. Troopers told him if he continued, they would charge him with escape; he continued. While at the barracks, he had to be restrained from damaging the wall with his head. When a trooper grabbed his arm, he threatened to bite the trooper, the complaint stated.
Thompson was arraigned before District Judge Rich Luther and remanded to jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. He is scheduled for Central Court on Jan. 4.
