PORT ALLEGANY — Rumors swirled over the weekend in the Port Allegany community about what happened during the junior high homecoming dance Friday.
To quell the rumors, Port Allegany School District Superintendent Gary Buchsen sent a letter to families to explain what exactly happened.
In his letter, he stated, “During the dance, students alerted school officials,” about a district student who brought an airsoft pistol into the building during the junior high homecoming dance.
Buchsen’s letter explained that the unnamed student did not have with him any ammunition — plastic BBs — or an air canister to make the gun operable. The letter stated, “The child was questioned by school officials and removed from the dance … To ensure the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff the district worked collaboratively with the Port Allegany Borough Police Department completing a thorough investigation into this matter.”
