Local places highlighted in YouTuber’s ‘Grand Tour’ video

What all does Pennsylvania have to offer? An Allegheny County teen and his father, a native of Driftwood, have taken to YouTube to show that it’s more than just beautiful landscapes and fascinating history.

Augie Macro, 16, and his father, Klint, released a feature length documentary on YouTube called “The Grand Tour: The Cryptids, Creatures, and Curiosities of the Keystone State.” Klint runs the video camera and Augie does the research and narration.

Klint Macro spoke to The Era, during the school day for Augie, about the project.

“We spent all summer working on it last year,” he said. They didn’t find any cryptids during their jaunts, but they found a lot of gorgeous scenery, local history and stories about things like the legendary creature the Squonk — known for being so ugly that it cries constantly and can dissolve into a puddle of tears when frightened.

Johnstown has an entire festival celebrating the cryptid, called (what else?) Squonkapalooza, a visit to which is shown in the documentary. Lots of local places and stories are featured, like a train derailment in Cameron County into “the lily pads,” a look at the Sinnemahoning Rattlesnake Hunt and a visit to the Austin Dam. Cryptids discussed in the documentary include Bigfoot, “Raystown Ray,” a lake monster similar to the Loch Ness Monster; Kettle Creek monster, a seal-like monster; The “Pig Lady” of Cannelton; and thunderbirds at Dents Run.

Klint Macro said, “His show is really about cryptids, but we’ve been to so many interesting places, Augie said, ‘Why don’t we do a road show?'”

Macro said the family comes up to Cameron County to the rattlesnake hunt each year, and tries to film when they are in the area. They are always looking for more stories. Klint Macro can be reached at klint@cobblestudios.com

“The Grand Tour: The Cryptids, Creatures, and Curiosities of the Keystone State” is free to watch on the Cryptid Creatures with Augie Macro Channel on YouTube.
