(TNS) — Trying to fulfill your goal to lose weight for 2024 and love a cup of coffee in the morning?
The answer to the former might lie in the mug you’re holding every morning.
But the trick to it all lies in how many coffee cups a day it takes to slim down.
Fortunately, the dieticians known as the Nutrition Twins, Tammy Lakatos Shames and Lyssie Lakatos, are providing answers to those burning questions.
First things first: according to a study conducted by researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, drinking four cups of coffee daily could lower your body fat by about 4%.
The finding was the result of research conducted over 24 weeks, where 126 overweight, non-sensitive adults enjoyed either four cups of plain coffee or four cups of a coffee-like placebo beverage.
The scientists discovered that drinking four cups of coffee daily was “associated with a modest loss of body fat.”
With that being said, depending on your body size, The Nutrition Twins suggest drinking about two to five cups of coffee daily for weight loss. But one thing to keep in mind is the strength of the cup of coffee.
“Beware that by adding cream, whole milk, or sugar to coffee, you can easily offset any of the calories you burn from the coffee,” The Nutrition Twins told Eat This, Not That. “In fact, new research published in Clinical Nutrition found that drinking a cup of coffee a day can help with weight loss, but if a teaspoon of sugar is added it negates the benefit.”
So, it’s been proven that coffee can aid in your weight-loss journey, but it’s also important to watch out for sweetened creamers, artificial sweeteners and sugary syrups.
Coffee can even do more for you when it comes to shedding unwanted pounds.
“First, coffee contains caffeine, which has thermogenic effects and can speed up metabolism, helping you to burn more calories,” The Nutrition Twins told the outlet.
“Some studies have shown that it can help to decrease BMI, body weight, and body fat. Coffee can also curb appetite and reduce hunger,” they also said. “Research shows that drinking coffee before a meal can reduce the calories you eat at the following meal, even if you have the coffee for up to four hours before a meal. Coffee also contains chlorogenic acid, which has been shown to increase fat burning and may help slow the absorption of carbohydrates.”
