A Derrick City woman faces fraud allegations after allegedly making an insurance claim for an accident that occurred before she had the insurance.
Joanna M. Hendryx, 31, of 118 Olean Road, is charged with insurance fraud and attempted theft by deception, both third-degree felonies, court records indicate.
According to court records, on April 9, Hendryx submitted a claim to GEICO Insurance for an accident in which she struck a deer, but she was denied coverage because she only had liability coverage.
There was no police report of the accident, and, as the car was still driveable, there was no report from a towing company, court records stated.
Also on April 9, she obtained a new policy for comprehensive and collision insurance coverage for the same vehicle through Progressive Insurance. She waited a few days, then on April 12, she made a claim through Progressive for the same damages, but she said the accident happened April 11, according to court records.
Hendryx is free on $15,000 unsecured bail, and she is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Nov. 12.
