ST. MARYS — A St. Marys man and manager of a local AutoZone has been charged with embezzling more than $4,000 from the auto parts retailer over a period of days.
Jamie N. Wilson, 35, of 10 Mark Street was recently charged with felony theft counts after authorities say he misappropriated three bank deposits belonging to the 953 South St. Marys Street business and totaling $4,125.05 over three days in October.
According to court documents recently obtained from Magisterial District Judge Mark Jacob’s office, the discrepancy first came to the attention of an AutoZone loss prevention manager, who arranged an interview with Wilson in late November. The company investigator later told police Wilson admitted to taking the missing deposits for “personal reasons” under questioning. He also reportedly copped to taking $100 in cash from the store’s registers during his tenure, bringing the total combined theft to more than $4,225.
The status of Wilson’s employment with Auto Zone was not immediately clear after he was charged early last week with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, both third-degree felonies.
He has been summoned to appear in St. Marys District Court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 20 and had no defense attorney listed on court dockets as of Monday.
