PEEPS
PEEPS: At Easter time, the sugary marshmallow candy shaped like bunnies and chicks known as Peeps are seemingly everywhere.
Based in Bethlehem, Pa., family owned Just Bom Inc. manufactures the much loved (or much maligned, depending on one’s tastes) treat.
While the traditional row of chicks or bunnies are still commonplace, Peeps also offers individually wrapped mini chicks. And Peeps in an array of flavors, like Dr. Pepper, Cotton Candy, Fruit Punch, Blue Raspberry Icee, Party Cake, Rice Krispie Treats, Sour Watermelon, Breyer’s Cookies and Cream, Chocolate Pudding, Cinnamon Churro and Tropical Punch.
‘Nothing says ‘Spring’ like Easter and PEEPS! These fluffy Marshmallow Chicks have been a fan favorite for over 70 years and a colorful addition to Easter baskets everywhere. Available in Yellow, Pink, Blue, and Lavender!’
Just Born reminds fans that there’s no fat, cholesterol or sodium in Peeps. Sugar, well, that’s another story.
The website for Peeps Brand offers recipes and crafts, and a section to ‘Live your Peepsonality.’ There are some very cute cakes and cookies on the page, like Peeps Bunnyfly Brownies and Peeps Sugar Cookie Pizza, and fun little ‘nests’ with angel food cake. We’ve always liked the race cars made with Twinkies and driven by a Peeps bunny — Bunny Buggies.
The Just Born company also makes Mike & Ike candy, Peanut Chews, Hot Tamales and Just Born Jelly Beans.
While Peeps are commonly associated with Easter, they’ve become part of summer fun, Halloween’s hi jinks and a Christmas favorite with shapes like pumpkins and ghosts, Christmas trees and stockings.
And Just Born invites fans to Express Your Peepsonality with art and dioramas in different contests throughout the U.S. — some of which, of course, are called Peep Shows.
