Columnist Deb Wuethrich’s new book launches Monday at Portville Library
OLEAN, N.Y. – Olean Times Herald and Bradford Era columnist Deb Wuethrich has released a new book, ‘Chased by Demons, Caught by Grace — Winning Psychological and Supernatural Battles.’ The book is based on a true experience that changed the direction of her faith journey, beginning with the tragedy of 9/11, which triggered some mental and spiritual challenges.
In the foreword, Christian author, pastor and speaker James N.
Watkins calls the book a ‘transparent, vulnerable and at times shocking memoir’ in which the author describes mental and spiritual battles from which she eventually emerged triumphant, testifying to the infinite power of God and his faithfulness.
‘It’s kind of a strange little book, given some often not talked about topics, but people can experience wild things and must decide whether to share or not,’ Wuethrich says.
She reveals that she once heard voices, which she later knew were really intrusive thoughts aggravated by brain chemistry, bringing some challenging experiences. She confesses it took a long time to decide to share what took place two decades ago.
‘I wasn’t sure whether to open up about this because of the continuing but somewhat improving stigma of mental illness, even a diagnosed mild form, but also because some do not believe what can transpire as spiritual warfare with an invisible enemy, which I surely experienced,’ Wuethrich says. ‘My vulnerable mind became a battlefield for this enemy and what I perceived as dark, demonic spirits for a time. This book details a bit of what that is like for one going through such trauma and offers hope of emerging victorious.’
The author felt God’s hand on the narrative, which began with questions posed to him through journal entries and later longer writings as she processed her condition. She also credits her late husband Gordy for helping her heal through his faith, strength and tender care.
The back cover notes the book is ‘a compelling witness of faith and spiritual warfare through the author’s personal story of grief, depression, mental affliction and supernatural encounters (hearing voices, a frightening phenomenon).’
The condition is well under control now, through faith, prayer and the assistance of medical science. Wuethrich believes God revealed his good plans to refine her future as a Christian writer by working through a fiery furnace trial, leading her to victory over a trying condition.
She says God also proved his faithfulness E ks** TmeSn watK/ Ns
