Steelers’ backup plan to Rodgers revealed
(TNS) — The Pittsburgh Steelers certainly seem interested in quarterbacks that will come out in the 2025 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh will host Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders on a pre-draft visit after hosting Louisville’s Tyler Shough and Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart.
On top of that, their pro day movements suggest heavy information gathering on the group at large. The Steelers have shown interest in the pro day circuit in Will Howard, Jalen Milroe, Quinn Ewers, and Riley Leonard.
That is a lot of prodding around for just due diligence. Does it have anything to do with the fact that the team has yet to hear back definitively from Aaron Rodgers on whether he will sign for the 2025 season?
It may not be completely foolproof, but the Steelers seem to be gearing up for a quarterback in the draft, whether in the middle rounds or even a first-round quarterback. The team says they have confidence in Mason Rudolph, but an urgency to add a rookie might run straight against that notion.
All of that suggests the Steelers’ plan, potentially as a backup or to coincide with Rodgers, is to draft a quarterback at some point in the 2025 class. It could range from a pick at No.
21 to sometime on early day three.
Either way, the Steelers have done too much work on the quarterback class to deny that there is no correlation in their interest in the group and the obvious hole they have on the roster. Expect them to add a quarterback.
