Bradford’s Brayden Frair breaks school record in the 1600 meters in Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH — Bradford senior Brayden Frair was all business at the South Hills Classic in Pittsburgh on Saturday as he set a new school record in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:21.47. The previous record was set in 2013 by Aziz Yousif of 4:22.37.
Frair took first place as well. Later in the day he won the 800 meter race with a time of 1:58.92. This was the sixth fastest time ever run by a Bradford boy in this event. He is now only 2.48 seconds off that record. Frair currently holds the 3200 meter and 2000 meter steeplechase records as well. Frair was also busy anchoring the 4x800m relay to a 5th place finish along with Joe Caruso, Kadyn Tessena, and Steve Troisi in a time of 8:51.20. Friar finished the day off with a 52.0 split in his 400M anchoring the 4x400M relay to a 2nd place finish in 3:36.14. Tyler Simmons, Kadyn Tessena, and Danny Marasco all did well in that relay.
Junior Danny Marasco also had a strong day with second place finishes in the long and triple jumps with distances of 20’8.75” and 42’1.5” respectively. He lost each jump by only .5 inches. Sophomore Tyler Simmons placed 6th in the high jump as well. Tyler also placed 15th in the 100M(11.84).
“It was not an ideal day to run or jump with high winds, a wet track, and intermittent rain but the guys rose to the occasion. We also had our van break down and had to wait at the end of the day for a replacement bus to arrive and take us home. We left Bradford at 5:30 in the morning and returned home at 11:30 pm for an 18 hour day,” said Bradford coach Tom Tessena. “We had some other guys who wanted to go but we only had one van available. We will hopefully get everyone back in action this coming Saturday at the Harborcreek Invitational up by Erie. Our Tuesday meet with Kane has been canceled and hopefully will be rescheduled. The past week we had a Saturday meet and a Tuesday meet which took quite a bit out of us so it was good that the other guys got a day off.”
Evan Troisi was 29th in the 1600M( 5:03.56), Kadyn Tessena was 21st in the 800M(2:12.80), and Joe Caruso placed 10th in the 3200M(10:56.47), and 17th in the 1600M(4:50.58).
Junior Marcus Terwilliger had a solid all around day with a 3rd place finish in the High Jump (5’8”), a 7th place in the Triple Jump( 38’5”) and a 10th place in the long jump(19’5.5”) “Our goal from the beginning of the season was to be at our best on May 16 for Districts. We are pleased where most of our guys are at but we have many areas we must improve upon between now and then,” Tessena said. “Our coaching staff and most team members are working very hard to improve. We also must stay healthy to meet our goals.”
