Bradford boys track & field defeats St. Marys
On a less than perfect day Bradford sophomore Tyler Simmons was a quadruple winner, taking down the 100M(11.68), 200M(23.98), the high jump(5’10”), and the 4x400M relay.
“The times were run into a pretty strong headwind. The 100M and 200M were also personal bests,” said Bradford Boys coach Tom Tessena.
Senior Brayden Frair had three first places, winning the 1600M(4:45.85), the 800M(2:00.75), and a 52.0 split in the 4x400M relay.
“These were exceptional times for this cold and windy day. Brayden strives to do his best everyday and he sets an example I wish all our team would follow. He really takes pride in everything he does,” Tessena said. “Junior Danny Marasco also had an exceptional day. Danny had personal best in all four of his events. He won the long jump with a leap of 21’2”. This was our 11th best ever in this event. He took 1st in the 400M in 53.75 and had his best triple jump ever (42’4.25”).
“This was the 12th best ever for Bradford but he lost by .75 inches to teammate Fabian Sherk who leaped 42’5”. Danny also ran a 53.5 split in the winning 4x400M relay. Junior Logan Kohler also had 3 first places, winning the 110M High Hurdles(16.46), the 300M Intermediate Hurdles(44.53) and a leg on the 4x100M relay where he combined with Enzo Aiello, Jeremiah Long, and Matt DeCasper to win in 46.85.”
“Our jumpers had a great day. We swept the long jump and triple jump, and also took 1st and 2nd place in the high jump and pole vault. Enzo Aliello and Cooper McGee placed 1st and 2nd in the Pole Vault with 11’6” and 10’0” respectively. Marasco was joined by Fabian Sherk and Marcus Terwilliger in the long and triple jumps with Sherk doing 42’5” in the triple (11th all-time) and 19’7” in the long jump and Marcus hitting 40’2” in the triple and 20’ 2.5” in the long jump,” Tessena said. “Marasco also placed 2nd in the high jump(5’8”) and also placed 3rd in the 300M IH(46.85). Marcus had 4 personal best for an outstanding day. We scored 34 out of the 36 possible points in the 4 jumps. We needed this we only scored 8 points in the throws and they usually are one of our top areas. We have a lot of work to do here. Sophomore Landon Davenport got a 3rd in the shot(37’11”) and a 2nd in the Discus. Andrew Giordano was 2nd in the javelin(146’10”. And Preston Neel was 3rd in the Discus. Freshman Miles Bundy had a good throw in the discus(97’8”) and Sophomore Jake Whitlow had a good throw in the javelin(102’3”).
Back on the track Joe Caruso placed 3rd in the 1600M(4:58.08) and 1st in the 3200M(11:53.11). Evan Troisi was 2nd in the 3200M and Kadyn Tessena was 2nd in the 400M(56.79) in addition to running on the 1st place 4x400M relay. Damino Dac Pos was 2nd in the 200M(26.08) while Matt DeCasper was 3rd to go along with a leg on the 4x100M relay. Fabian Sherk also placed 3rd in the 110M HH. Freshman Nikolai Frontino placed 3rd in the 3200M.
“The cold weather and strong wind kept the times down today. I thought that our guys who ran in the invitational on Saturday were still tired for today and that hurt their performances,” Tessena stated. “We did well in the sprints, jumps, hurdles and relays so that was encouraging.”
Some of the Owls return to action Saturday in Pittsburgh at the South Hills Classic. Bradford’s next regular meet will be on Tuesday in Kane, weather permitting.
