Brayden Frair and Tyler Simmons lead the Owls at Altoona
ALTOONA — The Bradford Owls had a strong showing at the Altoona Igloo Invitational Saturday, with Brayden Friar winning the 800-meter and setting a new Bradford record and Tyler Simmons finishing second in the high jump.
“We had some freshmen and sophomores get some experience and most of our veterans showed well,” said Bradford Coach Tom Tessena. “I think most of our guys saw where we need them and will accept the challenge of getting better.”
“Senior Brayden Friar had an outstanding day at the Altoona Igloo Invitational Track Meet.
He won the 800M in 1:59.05 That is the seventh fastest time ever for a Bradford boy.
He is now the only boy who is in the top ten for the 800M, 1600M, and 3200M,” Tessena said. “Friar also took second in the 1600M in 4:26.88, just one second off his all-time best. He finished the day anchoring the 4x400M relay ,which included Tyler Simmons, Kadyn Tessena, and Danny Marasco to an eighth place finish in 3:36.55.”
Sophomore Tyler Simmons also took second place in the high jump with a personal best of 6’0”. Danny Marasco also placed fourth in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 42’4.75”.
Sophomore Kadyn Tessena posted a personal best of 53.8 in the 4x400M relay. He also placed 16th in the 800m and combined with Joe Caruso, Evan Troisi, and freshman Jordan Hogue to take 7th in the 4x 800M relay in 9:01.6.
Caruso also placed 8th in the 3200M(10:47.03) and 12th in the 1600M(4:52.84) for a solid all around day. Junior Fabian Sherk posted 2 personal best on the day. He placed 5th in the long jump(20’8.5”) and 10th in the 300M Intermediate Hurdles with a time of 45.14.
He also was 12th in the triple jump(39’8.75”) to round out a great 1st meet. Junior Enzo Aiello placed 5th in the Pole Vault (11’6”) on a very tough day to vault because of the wind. These guys had good opening meets. Some of our other veterans didn’t do as well as they had hoped. The 1st meet is always tough.
Senior Joe Cary had a personal best in the javelin(136’2”).
Konnor Phillips and Landon Davenport had personal bests in the Shot Put, 37’8.5” and 37’5”. Joe Cary and Davenport threw the discus 112’8” and 107’8”respectively. Marcus Terwilliger did all 3 jumps( LJ – 19’1”), TJ – 36’10”, and the HJ – 5’6”. He also ran a personal best in the 300M Intermediate hurdles. He was running back and forth all day with no breaks and that is really hard for the 1st meet. Andrew Giordano threw the javelin(138’2”) and the Shot(38’7”). Cavan Drake had a personal best in the 400M(59.92). Nikolai Frontino ran the 1600M(5:27.0) and Xavier Frontino ran the 3200M (11:30.46). Evan Troisi ran the 3200M in 11:.90. Freshman Jordan Hogue scored his 1st Varsity points in that 4×800 relay and also anchored our B team 4×400 with a 59.3 split. Malyk Harpster, Cavan Drake, Nikolai and Xavier Fontino all ran well in the relays. Cooper McGee also placed 12th in the pole Vault and Tony McDonald ran the 110M High Hurdles (21.56).
Bradford travels to St. Marys Tuesday for its first dual meet of the season.
“(St. Marys) have some of the top people in the District and will give us a strong test,” Tessena said.
