Kane baseball claims win over Brockway

BROCKWAY — Brock Wensel had three hits in four at-bats during the Wolves’ 7-3 win over the Rovers.
The game was tied 1-1 until the top of the fourth, when a shingle from Kane Sherba and a one by Wensel scored runs to put the Wolves ahead 3-1.
Kane’s Phinn Chamberlain earned the mound win, striking out 12 while giving up one walk and nine hits over six and two-thirds innings.
On the mound for Brockway were B. Bash and Z Faith, combining to strike out eight while giving up four walks and 12 hits. SOFTBALL BROCKWAY 16, KANE 1 BROCKWAY — Elysabeth Myers belted a home run and a triple and Sierra Fremer doubled to lead Brockway to Thursday’s win.
Also leading Brockway was Ella Reitz with a double.
On the mound for the Lady Rovers was Navayda Smith, who struck out two and walked none while only giving up two hits.
K. McGuire was on the mound for Kane, striking out four and giving up seven hits while walking five.
OSWAYO VALLEY 19, COUDERSPORT 14 SHINGLEHOUSE — Eva West smashed an inside-thepark home run and doubled to lead OV to the win Thursday.
Shayden Mesler earned the mound win, striking out eight while walking five and giving up 18 hits.
On the mound for Coudersport was Cierra Davis, who allowed one hit and walked five while striking out two.
TENNIS ST. MARYS 5, DCC 2 DUBOIS — St. Marys is 3-1 on the season following Thursday’s win over DCC.
The Dutchmen took home two wins in singles and swept the doubles. St. Marys’ Gavin Henry and Brandon Henry notched victories at #2 and #3 singles.
“We brought a good level of tennis into the match right from the start today. Blake’s match with Volpe featured players with two different styles. Volpe’s steady and athletic retrieving were too tough for Hoffman to overcome with his aggressiveness, as he dropped the match breaker,” St. Marys coach Tim Henry said. “Gavin found a new level against DuBois this Tuesday and just elevated it a notch tonight. Brandon played with improved focus at three to pick up win #2. Dynda is learning at a fast pace and gave great effort in the loss at four singles.”
DCC’s Luke Fragle and Iassic Barker claimed wins at #1 and #4 singles, respectively.
“Tied at 2-2, the match hinged on doubles. Gavin and Hoffman are becoming a fun doubles team to watch with their ball striking. Their win took us to three wins,” Henry said. “Caskey and Cousins brought home the deciding win #4 in a battle of all freshmen. Lastly Brandon and Dynda played well throughout and took our total to five. Both teams showed great sportsmanship and represented their schools well.”
