MARYS 6, DUBOIS 1 DUBOIS — St. Marys saw first wins from a few members of the team and victories in all but one singles match to defeat DuBois.
“We had a few firsts today. All of our freshmen picked up their first win. Their efforts in practice are starting to pay off,” St. Marys coach Tim Henry said. “Luckenbill, a sophomore, also picked up his first-ever win. Jay and Blake’s match at 1 was a toss up in the first set til Jay found a way to stay relaxed and raise his level after a tight first set, while Blake tightened up.
“Gavin started slow, but found his high level for his first win. Brandon battled through and won, despite not having his best stuff today. Casey also is working himself back into form and got better as the match went on.”
The Dutchmen claimed victories in all three doubles matches as well.
“In the doubles matches, Hoffman and Gavin made a great team and were overwhelming. Two and three were fun beginner-filled matches with great effort from both team’s athletes,” Henry said. “We didn’t have our best stuff tonight, but it was enough for the win.”
