Gary Silvis
UMATILLA, Fla. — Gary Silvis, 71, of Duke Center, Pa., passed away peacefully March 20, 2025, in Tavares.
Born Nov. 16, 1953, in Olean, N.Y., he was the son of the late Richard Silvis and Carol Everitt Silvis. Gary was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School in Duke Center. For more than 30 years, he dedicated his career to Henkel/ Loctite Corp. in Olean.
On Jan. 23, 1971, he married the love of his life, Coleen O’Brien Silvis, who survives. Together, they built a loving family. Gary was a devoted father to his daughter, Tisa Schuit, and her husband, Chris Schuit, of Allison Park, Pa.; and his son, Nathan Silvis, and his wife, Valerie Silvis, of Bristow, Va. He was a cherished grandfather to Nicholas, William and Charles Schuit and Madilyn and Emma Silvis.
Gary was a loving brother to the late Larry Silvis (Janet Silvis, who survives) of Harmony, Pa., Barbara (Randy) Evans of Eustis, David Silvis of Duke Center and Cheryl (Jim) Eaton of Tavares. He adored his many nieces and nephews.
Gary was a man who embraced life and cherished his pastimes. He volunteered his time as coach to the local youth football and baseball teams. He loved to help neighbors and community members with jobs and tasks. He was an avid golfer, always eager to hit the links with friends. He also found great joy in the outdoors, whether he was hunting in the Pennsylvania woods or casting a line while fishing. Above all, Gary treasured spending time with his family and his many dear friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the family and friends who have provided support and kind words.
Gary will be deeply missed by his loving wife, his children and grandchildren, his siblings, his nieces and nephews and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His love for his family, his enthusiasm for his hobbies, and his gift for talking will be fondly remembered.
