Foundation calls for support of Penn State DuBois
DuBOIS — The DuBois Educational Foundation is calling upon communities in north central Pennsylvania to join in a unified effort to support the continued operation and growth of Penn State DuBois. Amidst recent announcements from University Park regarding a review of the commonwealth campuses, the DEF stands resolute in advocating for the campus’s long-term success and its essential role in North Central Pennsylvania. LEGACY OF OPPORTUNITY AND ECONOMIC GROWTH For 90 years, Penn State DuBois has served as an educational pillar, empowering students and industries across the nine counties it serves: Clearfield, Cameron, Jefferson, Clarion, McKean, Potter, Elk, Forest and northern Indiana. The campus provides quality higher education, workforce development and continuing education programs tailored to the evolving needs of the region.
More than 70% of students are from our tri-county area with our student experience survey rated at the highest level among commonwealth campuses. As well, eight out of 10 students are actively involved in student enrichment activities. More than just an institution of learning, Penn State DuBois is a crucial driver of economic development, working together with local businesses to cultivate a skilled workforce.
ADVANCING WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND HIGHER ED At the heart of Penn State DuBois’s mission is its dedication to strengthening the local workforce. The campus has forged strong partnerships with industries such as manufacturing, particularly in powder metallurgy, while also fostering innovation through initiatives like the North Central PA LaunchBox, which supports local entrepreneurs in transforming ideas into viable businesses.
A recent example of this commitment is the newly announced licensed practical nursing (LPN) program, launching in August. This program directly addresses the regional demand for healthcare professionals, especially considering the expanding Penn Highlands Hospital System and other medical facilities in the area. By equipping students with the necessary training, Penn State DuBois continues to support the growth of the healthcare sector and ensure access to skilled professionals within the community.
Additionally, the campus’s dual enrollment program offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credits at a reduced cost, providing a seamless transition into higher education. This initiative makes quality education more accessible and affordable, preparing the next generation of professionals to contribute meaningfully to the workforce.
A CALL TO ACTION As Penn State assesses the future of its commonwealth campuses, the DEF urges community members to recognize and advocate for the invaluable role that Penn State DuBois plays in shaping the economic and educational landscape of North Central Pennsylvania. The campus is not just a place for academic advancement — it is a foundation for community growth, business development, and career opportunities.
We understand the challenges ahead, and we respect the need for Penn State to evaluate its operations. However, we firmly believe that Penn State DuBois must remain an integral part of the Penn State system. It is a beacon of opportunity for students, a pillar of support for local businesses, and a catalyst for regional economic prosperity.

We need every voice. Whether you are a student, graduate, employer, or community member, your support is crucial in ensuring the future of Penn State DuBois.
