Alice Sayers
Alice Mae Sayers, 97, of Bradford passed away Friday (March 7, 2025) at Bradford Ecumenical Home.
Born May 6, 1927, in Frogtown, she was a daughter of the late William and Pearle (McLain) Ferry.
On Oct. 15, 1943, she married Lionel E. Sayers, who preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 2019. She was a 1944 graduate of Clarion Limestone High School.
Alice was a deeply spiritual person and prayer warrior who partnered in ministry alongside her husband when he answered the call to ministry in 1953. Alice was an active member and leader of United Methodist Women, taught Sunday School, assisted as a director of Junior Camp at Findley Lake and served on the board at Wesley Woods Christian Camp. Lionel and Alice served together at the following churches/ charges: Hartfield and Elms Flats EUB churches; Sugar Lake, Donation and Mount Pleasant EUB churches; and Evans Memorial UMC.
Alice worked in admissions at Bradford Hospital and as part of the office staff at Surgical Associates, but she is best known for her cookies, pies and bread baking.
Surviving are five daughters, Sherlyn (Sam) Deeter of Raleigh, N.C., Marsha Remington of Red Lodge, Mont., Brenda (Millard Gentner) Sayers of West Valley, N.Y., Celia (Tim) Brinker of Henderson, N.C., and Penny (Mike) Carroll of Portland, Ore.; one daughter-in-law, Noreen Sayers of Cooperstown; and one sister, Lois Skinner of Lima, Ohio.
She leaves behind a legacy of 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Lionel, of 75 years, Alice was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Eugene Sayers; and three brothers LeRoy, Harold and Ralph Ferry.
Family will receive friends from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, 1447 South Ave., Lewis Run, immediately followed by a celebration of life service at noon. A private burial will be held at Salem Cemetery in Frogtown.
