(TNS) — Apparently all this talk of tariffs and the U.S. annexing Canada has some people up north fighting mad.
That certainly seems to be the case with Canadian Sen. Patrick Brazeau, who took to X on Thursday to challenge Donald Trump to a boxing match.
That’s Donald Trump Jr., by the way, not the current president.
“In light of these bogus tariffs … I challenge you to a fight to raise money for cancer research or an organization of your choosing,” the post reads, accompanied by a photo of Brazeau boxing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “Our countries don’t need to be at war but we can fight to raise money.”
“P.S.: Tariffs have nothing to do with fentanyl,” he wrote.
Brazeau told CBC News that he is “100 percent serious” about the challenge.
“Just looking at everything that has transpired in the last two months, I just was wondering … what could I do?” he said. “Let’s duke it out and let’s see how much courage the Trumps and the president’s son truly have.”
Brazeau said he considered challenging Vice President J.D. Vance instead, but thought Trump Jr. would be a more symbolic stand-in.
“I just wanted to call an American out and it just so happens to be the president’s son,” he said.
Earlier this week President Trump put 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports. On Thursday U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Trump would likely suspend most of those tariffs.
Also on Thursday, Trudeau said that retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. would remain in place for now and that he expects Canada and the U.S. to be in a trade war for the foreseeable future.
