The Greater Bradford Senior Activity Center will host its annual Soup and Sandwich Fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $10 per person, which includes an all-you-can-eat meal and dessert.
The sandwich will be toast and cheese. There will be a selection of homemade and donated soups prepared by people in the community and members of the center. The wide variety of soups will include broccoli and cheese, clam chowder, pasta e fagioli, ham leek and potato, bean, cauliflower, vegetable beef, chicken noodle, chicken gnocchi, vegetable, sausage and more.
“There are a few other soups coming but they will be a surprise,” said Amy Patterson, organizer of the event. “The dessert will be cookies and those are all-you-can-eat as well.”
This is the eighth year that the center has hosted this fundraiser. All proceeds go to the senior center.
“It helps keep us operational and allows us to continue to provide activities that help keep seniors as independent and socialized as possible,” said Patterson.
The senior center is open five days a week, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. The center offers nutritional meals for members daily. They also offer exercise classes twice a week. In addition, there are book clubs, live music events, crafting classes each month, a baking club and other activities to help seniors live a vibrant life.
“We try our best to offer something for everyone,” said Patterson.
The center has about 150 registered members.
“Some people just come in for one activity — maybe they just like to play bingo or they just want to come in for lunch,” said Patterson. “So it isn’t always packed, but we have a good community here.”
