A Bradford man is in jail for allegedly breaking into someone’s apartment and lying on the floor, holding hedge clippers.
August Whitford, 22, of 221 Congress St., is charged with criminal trespass, a third-degree felony.
According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 1, Bradford City Police were dispatched to 38 W. Corydon St., Apt. 2, for a report of an unwanted male refusing to leave the residence. The two victims told police that when the female returned to the apartment, Whitford was inside, on the living room floor holding hedge clippers. She told the male victim, who yelled at Whitford to leave. As he was leaving, they asked him why he was there. He told the female, “You ruined my life,” the complaint stated.
Police spoke to Whitford, who said he went to the residence to try to speak to his former girlfriend and when he arrived, he saw the front bush needed trimmed. “So he picked up the hedge clippers and then entered the residence” by reaching in the glass and unlocking the door. He walked inside, found no one home and decided to lie down on the floor. He was confronted minutes later, the complaint stated.
A preliminary hearing in the case was rescheduled for April 30. He remains incarcerated in lieu of $10,000 bail. He is represented by Public Defender Phil Clabaugh.
