AUSTIN — Sinnemahoning State Park has several free programs on tap for March.
First up is the Owl Prowl, set 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. March 8. Join a park naturalist for a walk to listen for various species of owls in the park. Meet at the Wildlife Viewing Area.
A Spring Sojourn is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. March 15, when attendees can enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or cocoa indoors as the group takes part in the Great Backyard Bird Count. Learn to identify the birds visiting feeders just outside. Stop in anytime during program hours at the Wildlife Center.
Waterfowl Watch is slated 1 to 3 p.m. March 22 as spring migration is underway. Join a park educator at George B. Stevenson Lake to see what species of ducks, geese and swans have stopped over on their way north to breed. Meet at the Lake Day Use Area.
Take a Woodcock Walk from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 29, watching for the sights and sounds of the American woodcock’s “sky dance” display, a traditional sign of spring across eastern North America. Meet at 40 Maples Day Use Area and join a park naturalist on a walk down the Lowlands Trail to look and listen for the whistling wings of these interesting birds.
