SALAMANCA, N.Y. — With plenty of snowfall and consistently cold temperatures this winter, conditions are the best they’ve been in many years for the pro snowmobile races revving into town this weekend.
Thousands of snowmobilers and winter sports fans alike will gather Friday and Saturday at the Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino for the return of the AMSOIL Championship Snocross National.
After the coronavirus pandemic and uncooperative weather paused the racing action locally for three years, the Snocross made its triumphant return to the area in 2024, and things are expected to be even bigger and better this weekend.
“Preparations for this year’s Snocross have been going exceptionally well,” said Kevin Nephew, President and CEO of Seneca Gaming Corporation. “It’s shaping up to be a fantastic event, and we are looking forward to welcoming the crowds this weekend.”
Nephew mentioned that Seneca Allegany will unveil an exciting new track layout in 2025. He explained that the track has been elevated onto the hill, resulting in a thrilling experience for both riders and spectators.
“The new layout will take the breathtaking speed and excitement of Snocross to a new level,” he said. “This has been one of the best years for track preparations.”
In past years, lower snow totals and unseasonably warm temperatures created challenges, Nephew explained. Snowmakers would run 24/7 just to get track conditions where they needed to be, but this year, the winter weather cooperated quite nicely.
“The team was able to stop making snow a week early and a majority of the track is real snow,” he said. “That makes for great racing conditions for the riders and an even more thrilling experience for all of our guests.”
Beyond the action out on the track, Nephew said Seneca Allegany has plenty of non-stop action and amenities for casino guests to enjoy. Snocross spectators can take advantage of an exciting opportunity to double up on their fun while visiting the casino this weekend. Ticket holders will receive $10 in Free Slot Play with their paid Snocross admission. The offer is extended to $15 in Free Slot Play for military veterans with military ID.
“Our gaming floor and the Seneca Sports Lounge are always bustling with excitement,” Nephew continued. “We have restaurants and bars to feed every appetite, plus guests can enjoy live entertainment at The River Bar all weekend with Brother James performing on Friday and Uptown Groove on Saturday. This is going to be a weekend to remember.”
Snocross weekend embraces and celebrates Seneca Allegany’s role as a true year-round destination, Nephew said, not just for Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino but for Salamanca, the Seneca Nation’s Allegany Territory and the surrounding community and region.
“It showcases our winter season as a reason to visit — not a deterrent,” he added. “Thousands of people are going to come through the area in the middle of February and realize what a great, welcoming and fun destination we have, with plenty of exciting reasons to visit again.”
