Even Bradford Sanitary Authority has been in on the snow-removal and management efforts in the city, as crews were called out during this last weekend’s sloppy weather.
Personnel were “out in full force,” according to BSA Executive Director Steve Disney, to clear snow and ice from stormwater catch basins across the city.
“The rain caused numerous dangerous areas across the city with ponding on the roads,” Disney recalled. “BSA wanted to ensure catch basins were open and removing standing water from the roadways before the low temperatures and flash freeze hit the area.”
The authority board of directors handled mostly routine matters as there were no updates to report on the plant’s ongoing National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting review process, the Upper Allegheny Health System helipad on authority property or the pending gas main installation by Pennhills Resources.
Disney reported that delinquencies were steady in January while February’s safety meeting covered proper ergonomics and being cautious in slippery conditions.
“We discussed staying situationally aware of our surroundings as often times complacency can set in when doing repetitive tasks, but circumstances and surrounding conditions are always changing.”
In addition to preparing required annual reports, personnel have been working to remove obsolete equipment within the plant and make better use of the space and operators have made use of their extensive in-house skills to work around challenges presented to equipment by this winter’s sustained cold temperatures.
