HARRISBURG (TNS) — Two elected state officials have made warring Super Bowl bets. And the cheesesteaks are high.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has made a bet against Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe as teams from their home states are set to clash during this year’s Big Game.
In a video published to X on Friday, Kehoe suggests “another friendly Super Bowl wager” with the Keystone State’s leading official.
“Now I’m sure deja vu is kicking in for you,” Kehoe says. “After all, in 2023, when [former] Gov. Parson made this bet, Missouri’s Kansas City Chiefs walked away victorious.”
The bet in question? Should the Eagles win, Kehoe will send Shapiro some Missouri-grown beef along with an assortment of Kansas City staples such as Gates Bar-B-Q Sauce and Chase Candy Company Cherry Mash.
“I’m predicting a 31-17 Chiefs Super Bowl victory,” Kehoe adds. “I look forward to enjoying some Philly cheesesteaks from Gov. Shapiro after the Chiefs bring home the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday.”
Shapiro released his own video in response to Kehoe. In it, Shapiro makes the claim that the Philadelphia Eagles will, without a doubt, win against the Chiefs this year, all while promoting a few Philadelphia businesses that were affected by the recent plane crash, too.
“Now, you look, this cheesesteak and this soft pretzel are sitting right here in this office,” Shapiro says.
He adds: “Let me tell you something, gov’ — these steaks and these pretzels aren’t going anywhere. Cause the Birds are gonna win.”
The caption on Shapiro’s video, by the way, was the following: “Good luck consoling the state of Missouri.”
