The Lady Terrors kept on rolling this season on the road at Smethport Wednesday winning 58-38. Peyton Neff shined in the loss for the Hubbers though, making eight three-pointers and scoring 26 points.
It was the third game in three days for the Lady Terrors, and it showed early with Smethport jumping out to an 8-4 lead. “Three games in three nights, it doesn’t really matter who you are playing,” Otto-Eldred coach Shawn Grey said. “We were down a starter, we had two that weren’t feeling well but played anyway.”
It didn’t take long for the Terrors to start to turn it around though. They didn’t have freshman standout Baylee Francis, but senior Carrie Drummond took control of the Otto-Eldred scoring.
After Neff made the three-pointer to go up 8-4, Drummond answered with a three of her own. The Terrors finished the opening quarter with nine straight points from four different scorers to be up 15-8.
In the second quarter the Terrors continued to pour it on after gaining the momentum. They scored eight straight to begin the second, making it a 17-0 run. “They just stayed the course, and they did what we do,” Grey said.
The Hubbers got four points to break the run, but Otto-Eldred was still in control. They scored 10 straight to end the half, with the last 5 coming from Drummond to lead 32-12 at halftime.
“That’s just Otto-Eldred, they are a great team.” Smethport coach Chad Goodman said. “They took their punches early and responded, that’s what great teams do.”
The one bright spot for Smethport was the three-point shooting from Neff. She made three three-pointers in the first two and a half minutes of the second half.
It may have been an Otto-Eldred rout, but Neff continued to deserve attention. She made three more three’s to end the third to make it six three-pointers in one quarter.
Even with the big effort from her, the Terrors led 47-30 going into the fourth. Otto-Eldred comfortably moved through the last eight minutes to win 58-38, but not before Neff made her eighth three of the night to cap off a 26-point performance.
For Otto-Eldred, Drummond led the team with 17 points. Rayel Hakes and Lexi Prince each added 12 with Hakes pulling down 14 rebounds.
“I thought our youngsters stepped up,” Grey said. “When you have seniors like Addie Bell and Carrie Drummond that are good leaders. You just stay the course and everybody follows.”
The Terrors are now 18-2 on the season with playoff goals on their minds, Smethport is just the opposite at 2-18.
The Lady Terrors will be back in action at 7:15 on Friday against Oswayo Valley. Smethport just has two games left, with a road game at Bradford next at 7:15 on Monday.
