EMPORIUM — An Emporium man is in McKean County Jail after an arrest by the Attorney General’s North Central Drug Task Force in Cameron County on Tuesday.
Vincent Smith, 54, is charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, felonies; criminal use of a communication facility, a third-degree felony; and possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
According to Cameron County District Attorney Paul Malizia, a confidential informant purchased 4.5 grams of meth for $120 from Smith in the Dollar General parking lot in Shippen Township.
Assisting were members of the Potter County East Drug Task Force from Shinglehouse and the Potter County detective, all of whom witnessed the transaction from nearby posts. A canine was deployed from the City of St. Marys Police Department. The dog alerted on the vehicle and, after a warrant was obtained, 22.9 additional grams of meth was located in a hidden compartment inside the vehicle.
The meth is believed to have originated from Elk County, Malizia said.
Smith was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Barry Brown and remanded to jail in lieu of $50,000. He is in McKean County Jail until a preliminary hearing Feb. 13 before Brown.
Attorney General Narcotic agents, Emporium Borough Police Department, City of St. Marys Police Department, and the Elk County detective comprise the North Central Drug Task Force.
