SPCA: We follow area nonprofits on Facebook, and we have to give a shout-out to the McKean County SPCA for what they’ve been naming their animals.
We’re sure that people change the names of whatever pets they take home. And we’re seen a trend online of shelters giving strange names to pets, which seems to draw attention — a wonderful thing for the animals needing a home.
A quick trip through the local shelter’s social media showed cats named Yarn, Button Nose, Advent Calendar, Walking Taco, Octopus, Shampoo, Acquired Taste and Tide Pod.
And for dogs: Nightrider, Poutine, Holly-Ween, Toaster, Racket, Wild Thing, Feliz Navidad and Ding Dong.
Some have found their forever homes. Many are still at the shelter, just waiting for someone to find a pal like Zamboni, a 10-month-old domestic shorthair kitty who is white and gray; Ikea, a 2-year-old domestic shorthair tabby cat. Or make an appointment to see a beautiful pooch like 6-year-old Ghost, a large white mixed breed who is a sponsored adoption.
The shelter has a wish list for folks who want to help, but can’t have a pet. For food items, they need Purina Cat Chow, Purina Kitten Chow, Purina Dog Chow, Purina Puppy Chow, “Little Bites” Dog food, “Healthy Weight” dog food, “High Protein” dog food like Victor, Strive, Taste of the Wild, etc.; or any wet food for dogs and cats.
For medical supplies, they are in need of Terramycin, Nutri-cal, Hip and Joint meds for dogs, Hemp oil and Salmon oil.
Cleaning supplies are always welcome — bleach, Dawn dish soap, paper towels and laundry detergent. And of course, dog toys and blankets are needed as well.
