SUNY Jamestown Community College was recently approved for State University of New York’s Online+ recertification in 11 degree and certificate programs. Online programs that are part of the SUNY Online+ provide additional support services for students and faculty.
SUNY noted that JCC “has a high level of institutional commitment to high quality online education and your best practices for administering online programs are exemplary.”
JCC programs with SUNY Online+ designation include: Addictions Counseling A.S. and certificate; Business Administration A.A.S. and A.S.; Computer Science A.S.; Entrepreneurship certificate; Health Information Technology A.A.S. and certificate; Information Technology A.A.S. and certificate; and Liberal Arts & Sciences: Language, Literature & Writing A.A.
SUNY Online+ programs deliver personalized student support with career-related learning experiences, tutoring, academic advising and advanced online resources and opportunities from all 64 SUNY campuses. Technology and training support for faculty support ensures quality course design, delivery, and evaluation in an enhanced technological environment.
“As more students turn to online education, our endorsement by SUNY Online+ indicates that they receive the same exceptional quality and support as their on-campus peers,” said Jessica Kubiak, JCC’s vice president of Academic Affairs. “This recertification affirms our leadership in online education and our commitment to expanding access to higher learning.”
The number of students choosing online learning at JCC has increased significantly since fall of 2019, when 10.8% of the college’s total students were online only. That percentage grew to 24.4% in fall 2023 and to 27.1% this fall. Online-only students taking credit courses this fall numbered 230, with 98 faculty teaching online.
JCC provides faculty a Teaching Students at Distance course, for which 150 have completed or are currently taking, and an Online Course Design training and Online Course Quality Plan and Review.
“The SUNY Online+ designation reflects the efforts of our faculty and staff to ensure an outstanding online learning experience,” said Laura Parmenter, JCC’s director of Online Learning. “From personalized student support to pioneering course design, we are proud to deliver programs that empower students to succeed from wherever they are.”
JCC offers 22 online-only programs and certificates in business, computer science, liberal arts, and online health information, with many more that can be completed through a combination of on-campus and online classes.
With SUNY Online+, a student can advance from an associate degree to a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate entirely online.
