Junior Enzo Aiello posted his indoor best in the pole vault with a jump of 12’0” at The Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday. Enzo also cleared the bar at 12’6” but barely touched the crossbar on his way down.
He placed 7th in the meet. “Enzo was vaulting well in his second opportunity this winter,” coach Tom Tessena said. “He is going to do very well when he gets some good outdoor practice.”
Joe Caruso ran the 1600 meters in 4:55.97 (25th) and the 800 meters in 2:14 ( 26th). Sophomore Kadyn Tessena set a new sophomore record in the 300 meters with a time of 41.22. The 4×800 meter relay team of Tessena, Nikolai Frontino, Xavier Frontino, and Kamil Chen placed 4th in 10:07.13.
Preston Neel placed 20th in the Shot Put (28’10.5”). Nikolai Frontino ran the 1600M in 5:46.26(50th), Xavier Frontino ran 5:56.51(58th), and Cole Sloan ran 5:58.36 (61st). Xavier Frontino also ran the 800M in 2:37.69 (45th). Kamil Chen did the 400M in 62.52 (34th).
“We were missing some people due to the winter carnival and illness,” Tessena said. “It was also a bitter cold and long day.”
The Owls next meet is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 1 back at Spire, but Tessena isn’t sure they will make it. “We are not sure that we will make it,” Tessena said. “Our lack of practice is really making it difficult to be competitive, so we will just have to see how the next two weeks go.”
