(TNS) — Verizon agreed to pay $100 million last year in order to settle a lawsuit related to monthly administration fees.
Some customers who filed a claim to get a piece of that settlement just noticed they received their payment. A number, however, aren’t too impressed.
According to a March CBS MoneyWatch report, the lawsuit stemmed from accusations that Verizon “deceived” subscribers by unlawfully adding an “administrative charge” to their service bills “without [their] consent.”
The complaint continues to state how the company “never adequately or honestly disclosed” this fee to customers, and “uniformly charged them higher monthly rates than it advertised and promised.”
A more recent CBS MoneyWatch report explains how affected customers had until April 15 to get between $15 and $100 as part of the settlement. However, those who started to receive their payments this week took to social media to note how their actual payments were not as promised.
“Verizon Administration Settlement payment was supposed to be $15,” reads one such X post with an accompanying screenshot. “I got $2.51.”
“#VerizonSettlement absolutely ridiculous,” reads another.
“Justice has been served,” writes another X user sarcastically. “So glad I took the time to add myself to the Verizon class action lawsuit. Lawyers made [$]33 million.”
The same CBS MoneyWatch article explains how each legitimate claimant was entitled to $15 per account as well as an additional $1 for each month they received postpaid wireless or data services from Verizon and charged an administrative fee.
Verizon has not released a statement regarding these complaints as of the publishing of this report.
