WRONG: There’s something comical about opening up a package and finding something completely different than what you ordered.
Editor and reporter Marcie Schellhammer shared a story with us about a hard-to-find album by Blues Traveler she ordered from the internet as a gift. It’s out of print.
She was excited when a vendor had it for sale on Amazon. Luckily, it arrived before Christmas. Rather than setting it aside and waiting for the last minute to wrap it as usual, she opened the package.
To find The Best of Al Jarreau.
Not exactly the same thing.
So she took a photo of the order form and the album she was sent, and contacted the vendor. The response? We’re paraphrasing: “Uh, we don’t have what you wanted so we sent you that. Keep it. Or recycle it. Or re-gift it. Or throw it out. Here’s your money back.”
She said her family has laughed at the response every day since.
It’s easy to lose your temper when things don’t go right. It’s a lot healthier to find some humor in the situation.
From the Mayo Clinic — “A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body. “Laughter can: Stimulate many organs. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
“Activate and relieve your stress response. A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response, and it can increase and then decrease your heart rate and blood pressure. The result? A good, relaxed feeling.
“Soothe tension. Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation.”
