AUSTIN — A number of free programs are on tap this January at Sinnemahoning State Park.
A virtual program is first up, “Secrets of the Snowy Owl,” set noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 11. Snowy owls exist at the top of the world where they rarely encounter people. In winter some move south occasionally crossing paths with us here in Pennsylvania. Tune in virtually and join a park naturalist to learn about the lives of these northern visitors and how to increase your chances of seeing one in the wild. Registration is required and is available online for this virtual program.
During Cross Country Skiing for Beginners, slated noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 18, join a park educator for a fun lesson on the popular sport of cross-country skiing. Meet at the Wildlife Center. Program will begin indoors with an introduction to cross country skiing equipment and styles, followed by a guided practice instruction on level ground, then a short excursion on the trail. Program is free but registration is required and available online.
Then from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 25 will be Winter Walk – Making Observations in Nature. Join a park naturalist for a winter walk and learn to make observations in nature. Dress in layers and plan to be outside and active. Meet at the Wildlife Center.
