We are about to turn the calendar and get into a month of a ton of high school basketball action. Teams are starting to establish identities and there will be competitive games across the schedule.
Tough sledding for Bradford boys at DeCerbo
After starting 3-2, Bradford is now 3-5 after losing three straight games. In those games, finding consistent offensive success has been the biggest thing for the Owls.
They have done pretty well defensively this season, but the 41 points per game they are currently averaging is a number they would like to see go up.
There is still a lot of season left, so there is plenty of time to improve for a young team that is continuing to grow.
Elk County Catholic off to undefeated start
The Crusaders are off to a wonderful start and just won the Elk County Holiday Tournament with a dominant 61-33 win over Johnsonburg.
After going 25-3 last season Elk County Catholic looks like they are ready to make another good run starting 7-0. Aaron Straub is approaching 1,000 total wins, and the Crusaders are playing good basketball heading into the new year.
Bradford girls showing steady improvement
The Lady Owls have gotten off to a strong start under first-year coach Jason Blatchley, with Haley Keane filling up the stat sheet.
Keane should provide excitement not just for this season but in the future. The rest of the team is doing their part to earn wins as well, including Alyssa Johnson, who scored 14 points in their latest win over Keystone.
Port Allegany girls continue strong start
Port Allegany is coming off of a comfortable win over a quality Salamanca team Friday in the Decerbo tournament. They are 7-1 with their only loss being to Bradford, which is not surprising but slightly disappointing to coach Jamie Evens.
“Honestly, we expected to be 8-0,” Evens said. “That Bradford game was hopefully an aberration; we did not play well.”
The whole team played really well in the Salamanca game. Which is good for a squad that is led by senior Ella Moses. As North Tier League play kicks into full gear, the Lady Gators are playing well.
