If you fell asleep — or tried to — listening to the winds whip Sunday evening, it probably doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that hundreds of Penelec customers lost power overnight.
Approximately 600 customers in and around Bradford lost power and first responders were called to remove downed trees as winds gusted upwards of 30 mph.
Todd Meyers, Penelec spokesman, said Monday morning that there were “66 customers remaining without power in the county,” roughly half of those in Kane Borough.
Most customers, Meyers said, had power restored by morning. He explained the wind caused off-right-of-way trees to fall into Penelec equipment, damaging poles and wires.
At about 9:10 p.m. Sunday, Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department and Bradford Township Police were dispatched to a downed tree blocking both lanes of traffic on West Washington Street.
Crews closed the road in the Berva Drive area for approximately 75 minutes while personnel removed the tree and debris.
Corydon Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control, detouring eastbound traffic onto Hedgehog Lane while the road was closed.
Temperatures will begin to trend back toward more normal ranges as January arrives. A wintry mix on New Year’s Day will become all snow by evening, accumulating 1 to 2 inches overnight as temperatures dip into the mid-20s.
Snow showers are likely to continue Thursday, when it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 28. The next few days could feel like carbon copies, with mostly cloudy skies, highs in the low to mid-20s and lows in the mid-10s. Each day will bring with it a 40- to 60% chance of snow showers.
Temperatures Thursday night will drop into the upper teens. Friday will bring a high of 25 and low around 16.
Saturday’s high will climb to about 22 degrees, with the low again around 16. Expect a high of about 24 degrees Sunday.
