Women’s Literary Club
The Women’s Literary Club met Friday with President Carol Shannon welcoming everyone with holiday greetings. The tables were decorated with colorful packages, sleighs, lanterns, and a special Christmas card and package of frosted pretzels for each member from President Shannon.
Vice-President Holly Puglio introduced Rita Bennardi who is currently one of the organists at St. Bernard’s. She accompanies a very dedicated 12-member choir. Rita began her piano career at age 6 and started her organ career at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church. She has played for over 60 years as an organist for the Church of the Ascension, St. Francis, OMPH, and Emmanuel Luthern Church.
Rita played several pieces on the piano including, White Christmas, Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and others while members joined in singing. As we ended, we all felt that we were filled with the holiday spirit.
A short business meeting followed. Secretary Linda Gault read the previous minutes which were approved. Corresponding Secretary Mary Lou Detweiler shared two pieces of correspondence from Bright Alternatives, and the YWCA. President Shannon thanked everyone for attending the Current Event Christmas Tea. She also shared concerns for members who are currently ill or in the hospital. Members also enjoyed playing a Christmas movie trivia game.
Our next meeting will be on Jan. 3, “Sharing Books.” Members are encouraged to bring books they would like to exchange.
A beautiful Christmas tea table and assorted confections were shared by the Tea Committee members Ann Esch, Patty Colosimo, Karen Buchheit, Trudy Gulnac and Mary Lou Detweiler.
