Fans of the Bradford 10U Blizzard team were treated to a weekend of fantastic hockey. Bradford beat West Seneca Niagara 5-4 on Saturday.
Leading 2-1 after two periods, Bradford found themselves trailing 3-2 with six minutes left in the game. The line of Yazhier Kervin, Jack Rhoades, and Lily Schine came up big. Rhoades won an offensive zone face-off, sending the puck right to Griffin Atteberry, who was playing defense and buried the shot from the top of the circle to tie the game at 3.
The lead didn’t last long as West Seneca scored 30 seconds later to take a 4-3 lead. With a minute left, Emmett Speaker passed to Atteberry, who broke free and scored to tie the game with 50 seconds left on the clock. In the final moments, Carter Geer won a puck battle on the boards and got it to Parker Rose. Rose found Atteberry, who broke through the defense and had a shot on goal. After a kick save, Speaker took a shot which ricocheted off the goalie onto Atteberry’s stick, and he buried the game-winning goal with just 3.5 seconds left.
On Sunday, Bradford won another close game 5-4 against Cazenovia. After being shut out in the first period, Atteberry got the scoring started in the second with a goal from a nice pass by Cooper Morris.
Bradford found themselves trailing 3-2 when Atteberry broke loose and scored with 4:34 left in the game. About a minute later, Parker Rose took a shot from the blue line, which found the back of the net to give Bradford the 4-3 lead and the win!
Ezra Crozier, Karli Frederico, and Emmett Callinan played fast and strong all weekend to help Bradford secure the victories. On defense, Liam Medina played great, moving the puck around the boards and creating chances for the offense. Goalie Zedryx Kervin was solid all weekend as he faced constant pressure.
For the weekend, Atteberry had seven goals, Rose had two goals, Speaker had two assists, and Rhoades and Morris each picked up an assist. Bradford is now 11-0 and returns home on December 28th at 10:30 a.m.
