CHOMP: It’s been awhile since we’ve talked about Popcorn.org. And the holiday season is a great time for the tasty snack.
This recipe is quick and easy for elegant holiday popcorn. The ingredients are 8 cups popped popcorn, 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips, 1/2 cup white chocolate chips and candy sprinkles
Directions: Spread popcorn in a thin layer on a serving platter. Melt chocolate chips over a double boiler or in the microwave. Drizzle over popcorn. Melt white chocolate chips over a double boiler or in the microwave. Drizzle over popcorn. Immediately sprinkle the desired amount of sprinkles over warm chocolate-coated popcorn. Allow drizzles to set up until firm. Serve.
We imagine other flavors of chips could be tasty, too, like peanut butter, cinnamon, peppermint, butterscotch, sea salt caramel or even Bailey’s Irish Cream, with the flavor, but without the alcohol.
Here’s another popular one that’s fun with children: Jingle balls, which are red and green popcorn balls. Ingredients: 12 cups popped popcorn, 6 tablespoons butter or margarine, 3 cups mini marshmallows, ½ teaspoon peppermint extract, and assorted colored sugars.
Directions: Spray a large mixing bowl lightly with cooking spray. Add popcorn. Spread plastic wrap on cookie sheet; set aside. In a medium saucepan, melt butter and marshmallows; stir until mixture is smooth. Stir in peppermint extract. Pour over popcorn, mixing until well coated. Let cool for 2 minutes. Spray hands with cooking spray and form popcorn mixture into 3-inch balls. Gently press colored sugar onto balls. Let sit on a prepared cookie sheet until cool and set.
Have the children decorate containers to put them in. Inexpensive bowls and markers, or even coffee filters and creativity could make for a fun afternoon.
