Hearts were warm and spirits were brighter than the Christmas lights during the 15th Annual Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade Friday evening.
There were colorful floats in every theme from Lifesavers to gingerbread houses. And the crowd was really getting into the festivities. Many people were dressed in their holiday best, including Adelyn Nelson, 9, who was watching the parade with her family. The brisk snowfall couldn’t dampen her spirit.
“I am excited to see Santa,” she said.
“This is the best parade they have all year,” said Trudy Galnac, who was watching the parade with her.
As the parade made its way down Main Street, people began to gather in anticipation at the gazebo in Veterans Square. Santa, Mrs. Claus and an elf were there to greet little ones and light the Christmas tree.
This year, Jackson Buckley, 9, and his sister, Caitlin Buckley, 10, were also enthusiastic to see Santa in the parade.
“We still believe in Santa,” said Caitlin, as Jackson nodded his agreement.
This year, Caitlin hopes to receive an electric drum set. She is already an avid musician and performs with the School Street Band.
Jackson is hoping to increase his communication skills in the coming year. And he believes he knows just how to do that.
“I am asking Santa for an iPhone,” he said.
Avale McGarry, 9, was one of the children waiting in line to see the big man himself.
“My favorite part of the parade was seeing Santa’s sleigh,” Avale said.
This year, she is asking Santa for a VR headset, but she wants people to remember the true message of the season.
“Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’s birth,” she said. “It is not about what you get; it is about what you give.”
Frank Cole, 16, is thinking about the deeper meaning of Christmas as well. He is hoping to receive an electric bike this year.
“But people should really be thinking about being kind,” the teen said. “Because kindness is a gift that keeps on giving.”
