A Limestone, N.Y., man was arraigned Friday after allegedly breaking into a vacant apartment to stay there without permission.
Lloyd Baribeau, 45, is charged with two counts of criminal trespass – entering structure, third-degree felonies; two counts of criminal mischief – damaging property, third-degree misdemeanors; one count of possession of fentanyl and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, at 10:11 a.m. Friday, a Bradford City Police officer was at 31 W. Corydon St. to conduct a follow-up investigation on another matter. When the officer got to the second floor, he saw what appeared to be forced entry to a vacant apartment. He stepped into the apartment and looked for trespassers, but didn’t search it. He went back out and proceeded to go to the third floor. He heard someone leave the second floor apartment and start running down the stairs, and turned to follow him, yelling for the man to stop running. He detained the man in front of the building, the complaint stated.
The officer contacted the property owner, Hennard Properties, and was told the apartment had been padlocked shut and no one had permission to be inside. Baribeau was searched and found to be in possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. His personal possessions were found in the apartment, the complaint stated.
Baribeau was arraigned before District Judge Rich Luther and remanded to jail in lieu of $40,000 bail. He is scheduled for Central Court on Dec. 12.
