Dec. 15 is the deadline for college students to apply for the Rotary District 7280 Servant Leader Scholarship.
Students must be permanent residents of Rotary District 7280, which are the McKean County Rotary Clubs of Bradford, Port Allegany, Smethport, Mount Jewett and Kane. The scholarships can be applied to tuition for either their sophomore, junior or senior year as well as study abroad or postgraduate studies. However, preference will be given to undergraduate studies. The scholarship, which can be up to $5,000, is based upon financial need, academic achievement and community service activities of the applicant. Students are only eligible for one District Scholarship award.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be completing or have completed the first semester of their sophomore year, be in good academic standing, show evidence of being involved in at least three (3) community service activities, receive the endorsement of their local Rotary club, submit a resume which lists involvement and leadership in school and community activities, include a cover letter explaining how these activities relate to the Rotary Motto of “Service Above Self,” and provide most recent academic transcript.
If the scholarship would be used for either post-graduate study or a study abroad program, explain how it relates to your long-term career goals.
Students who are Rotarians or the children of active Rotarians are ineligible for the scholarship.
To apply, contact Ben Kirsch, Area Governor and Rotary Club of Bradford President, to request the application at bfdrotary@gmail.com. Contact your local Rotary Club to request an endorsement.
