FEAST: Thanksgiving isn’t so far away, and we saw a poll that asked what folks liked the most with their dinners.
We know for some folks, especially here in the office, it’s hands-down, unequivocally mashed potatoes, and nearly any derivative of Idaho’s best. What about elsewhere?
A survey at pennstakes.com says the most favored side dish of all for folks in Pennsylvania is stuffing. Yum! It was the number one choice of all four metropolitan areas named, too. In Pittsburgh, 48% of yinzers said stuffing was number one, while those cheesesteak fans in Philly were close behind at 44%. In the state’s capital city, where one might say there’s a lot of turkeys, stuffing came in first with 41% calling it the favorite side. And in Erie, folks were getting out of that lake wind that will soon bring with it lots of winter to vote for stuffing, with 46% saying it was the favorite.
Mac and cheese was the second favorite, with green bean casserole or mashed potatoes in third.
Other dishes included in the survey were sweet potato casserole, candied yams, brussels sprouts and cranberry sauce.
Each year, we stick to a conventional (for our family) menu, without things like green bean casserole or brussels sprouts, which no one there fancies. We do, however, like cooked winter squash with some brown sugar or marshmallows (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it).
We’re partial to the crescent rolls that come in a tube, the ones that scare the heck out of you when the tube pops open. They are small and tasty along with dinner.
What about dessert? Pumpkin pie or something less traditional? Store bought or homemade?
