SCRANTON — The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford traveled to Scranton over the weekend to participate in the Electric City Duals, hosted by the University of Scranton. The Panthers wrestled five dual matches, winning two of them.
The Panthers began their day with a matchup against the hosts. Scranton won the first two matches by pin before Dylan Slovick got Pitt-Bradford on the board with an 8-2 victory by decision. Nikolas Fegert followed this with a dominating 22-5 tech fall victory. The Panthers fell in the next three matches, putting them down 26-8. D.J. Slovick picked up a 9-4 win and Cameron Carter-Green finished the match with a victory by fall at 3:15.
In the second dual of the game, the Panthers won 42-6 over Rowan College of South Jersey. Pitt-Bradford dropped the first two matches by decision, before earning 4 wins by forfeit to go ahead 24-6. D.J. Slovick pinned his opponent at 184 lbs in 1:40. Following another win by forfeit at 197, Gavin Thompson finished the match with a pin in 1:04.
Match three saw the Panthers take on Keystone. Pitt-Bradford took an early lead against the Giants and then held on for a 32-15 win. Cade Stern and Jacob Rogers each won their weight classes by forfeit before Dylan Slovick pinned his opponent in 48 seconds to put the Panthers ahead 18-0. At 149, Fegert picked up his second tech fall of the game, shutting out his opponent 15-0. Carter-Green earned his second win of the day at 285, defeating the Keystone heavyweight by an 11-5 decision.
The Panthers faced a buzzsaw in their fourth dual of the event, as they took on SUNY Oneonta. The Panthers fell 40-9 to the Red Dragons, who eventually won the event. The Panthers picked up one win by forfeit at 174 and then closed the match with a victory when Gavin Thompson ground out a 1-0 victory at 285.
Pitt-Bradford closed the day with a match against New Jersey City, falling to the Gothic Knights 46-10. The Panthers won one contested match, as D.J. Slovick picked up a 20-9 major decision victory at 184.
D.J. Slovick led the Panthers with a 4-1 record on the day. He had 1 win by pin, and another by major decision. Nikolas Fegert went 3-2, picking up 2 victories by technical fall. Cameron Carter-Green won both his matches and pinned 1 opponent, while his fellow heavyweight Gavin Thompson went 2-1 with a pin. Dylan Slovick also had a winning record on the day, finishing 3-2 with a pin.
The Panthers are now 2-5 in dual matches this season. They will be on the road next weekend, as they take on Penn State-Behrend and Hiram in a tri-match hosted by Penn State-Behrend.
