PHOTOS: We’ve been lucky enough to have readers send in some of the beautiful photos they’ve captured in our gorgeous neck of the woods for us to share.
Now the tourism organization the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau of Cameron, Elk and Forest counties is looking for your best stargazing shots. The stargazing photo contest runs through Dec. 31, and has cash prizes.
Finalists’ photos for the contest period will be posted online with the four entries receiving the most votes winning the following cash prizes: 1st Place $100, 2nd Place $75, 3rd Place $50, and 4th Place $25.
To enter, complete the entry form and upload your photos at VisitPAGO.com/contest. The only requirements are that the photo meet the photo contest theme and must be taken in Cameron, Elk, or Forest Counties.
John Straitiff, executive director of the bureau, said, “Our photo contests are very popular with travelers and locals alike. This contest gives people the chance to show off their photos highlighting the natural beauty of the dark skies and incredible stargazing opportunities in region.”
While this contest is going on, Cameron County is working to develop its reputation as a premiere destination for looking at the dark skies.
”Our Dark Sky Park is open to the public and is up May Hollow Road on Lookout Lane. The space is a reclaimed landfill, which makes for a lot of land and space for wildlife and dark sky viewings. Travel up May Hollow road for about 3.41 miles past the Emporium Overlook. Continue straight through the stop sign. Continue straight for 2.19 miles and make a right onto Landfill Lane. Continue one mile to the parking destination.”
More is planned for the future at the park.
