Penn State Extension will offer a Tree Tenders training in early 2025. The classes, which will be held via webinar, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 8 to Feb. 19.
The course is aimed at teaching people how to restore and care for the tree canopy in their communities. The class is designed for people of all ages and levels, but may particularly appeal to those who are on shade tree commissions, community volunteers, arborists and landscape architects.
Those who want to attend must register by 11:45 p.m. Jan. 3, 2025.
Participants will be taught the nuts and bolts of trees; how they work and how their presence benefits the ecosystem and what things stress them. They will learn how to recognize and identify trees and learn how to properly plant and care for them. Students will also learn about what it takes to organize volunteer tree projects.
Certified arborists who take the class can earn continuing education units from the International Society of Arboriculture. Students can obtain certificates of attendance for landscape architecture continuing education credits and other certifications.
This program is supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service; The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society; and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry.
