KANE — The Kane Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Election Day Soup Luncheon 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Kane Community Center, 46 N. Fraley St.
Local restaurants donate a soup of their choice and then it is up to people who come to the event to vote for the winner. Soups are only labeled by the type of soup, not by the establishment, so it can be an unbiased taste test. For $5, a person receives tastings of all eight soups, a slice of homemade bread, a drink and a piece of cake. Each person is given one ballot to vote for their favorite soup, and if they show an “I voted” sticker from the polls, they receive two ballots.
“This is such a fun event, and everyone leaves with a full stomach and appreciation for the talent of our chefs here in Kane,” said Kane Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kate Kennedy. “I always hear the ‘Rocky’ theme song in my head as we gear up for this soup luncheon, but it is just a friendly competition. The real winners are the people who come out and taste!”
The 2024 Election Day Soup Luncheon participants are CJ Spirits, Flickerwood Winery, Kane Eagles Club, Kane Elks Lodge 329, Logyard Brewing, MamaSue’s Cookie Jar, Olmsted Manor Retreat House, Pepe’s Pizzeria, Roma Gardens, Table 105 and Texas Hot Lunch.
“We appreciate the generosity of these restaurants for making this event possible,” said Kennedy.
The winner of the soup competition will get a trophy to display in their place of business for the next year and bragging rights. Pepe’s Pizzeria was the 2023 winner. This year’s Election Day Soup Luncheon is sponsored by Haberberger Disposal and Lick N Sip.
