EMPORIUM — Koby Shepard accounted for three touchdowns (two receiving and one on a fumble recovery) as Cameron County won its third game in a row and improved to 3-1 with a 29-7 win over Smethport.
Smethport fought hard, and actually led, 7-6 at one point in the first quarter.
Cameron County got the scoring started when Kamden Fragale punched the ball in from five yards out to make it 6-0 after the extra point was missed.
Smethport answered for its lone score of the game to take the lead. Quarterback Aiden Tanner broke free for a 57-yard touchdown pass to Boe Kinner and the extra point from Justin Dunn made it 7-6 Hubbers.
The Red Raiders had the immediate answer, as Ryder Brown and Shepard connected for their first of two touchdowns, a 10-yard connection, and Brown threw the 2-point conversion attempt to Boden Pearsall to make it 14-6.
The Red Raiders extended the lead to 22-7 in the second quarter, when Brown and Shepard went to work again, this time a 33-yard touchdown. Malaki Zucal, who had another huge game on the ground, ran in the 2-point conversion.
That was the last offensive touchdown of the game. The only other score came when Shepard pounced on the fumble and scored in the fourth quarter.
Zucal, who came into the game with 480 yards rushing in his last two games, carried 23 times for 189 yards. Brown was 6-of-11 through the air for 117 yards, but was also intercepted four times, while Shepard had four receptions for 89 yards and Zucal two for 28.
Defensively, Jacob Matteson had seven tackles and an interception for Cameron County, while Shepard had eight tackles and two sacks. Landon Farren also had a sack and five total tackles.
For Smethport, Tanner was 6-of-14 through the air for 93 yards. Owen Rounsville had three receptions for 27 yards and six carries for 49 yards, while Jonah Ganoe had six carries for 63 yards, including a 53-yard run.
Rounsville had three of Smethport’s four interceptions, with Ian Fitzsimmons getting the other.
Ganoe also had a sack on defense, while Zach Hungiville had seven tackles and Clayton Kiser six.
UNION/A-C VALLEY 33, KANE 14
RIMERSBURG — Owen Bish did a little bit of everything as Union/A-C Valley earned a 33-14 win over Kane.
Bish carried the ball 15 times for 95 yards and a touchdown, was 11-of-20 passing for 108 yards and a touchdown and also had two receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown.
For Kane (1-3), which was coming off its first win of the season against Otto-Eldred, Eric Novosel was 11-of-16 passing for 115 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
That touchdown was a 43-yard pass in the second half to Austin Campbell.
Kane Scharba ran for 85 yards for the Wolves.
Aiden Fox also had a receiving touchdown for Union/A-C Valley (3-1).
Elsewhere, it was Otto-Eldred improving to 3-1, bouncing back from their first loss of the season with a 48-22 win over Bucktail, while Coudersport improved to 2-2 with a 26-13 win over Sheffield.
