COUDERSPORT — A Ulysses man is being held without bail in Potter County Jail on charges including attempted murder after state police responded to reports of shots fired inside a home.
Stephen William Connolly, 39, is charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder and third-degree attempted murder; burglary, aggravated assault and possession of a prohibited firearm, first-degree felonies; four counts of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; and criminal trespass, a third-degree felony. He is further charged with terroristic threats and possession of an instrument of crime, both first-degree misdemeanors; reckless endangerment and five counts of criminal mischief, all second-degree misdemeanors; four counts of simple assault, second- and third-degree misdemeanors; and criminal trespass, a summary offense.
According to Coudersport-based state police, at approximately 5 a.m. Saturday troopers were dispatched to reports of shots fired inside a residence in the 400 block of Cherry Springs Road, Sweden Township.
At the scene, police said they found Connolly inside the residence engaged in a verbal altercation with a man who, police said they later determined, Connolly had driven to the home intending to harm.
The police report indicates that when Connolly ignored verbal orders, troopers used a Taser in order to take Connolly into custody.
Four other people were present in the residence when the incident occurred, including two children.
Pennsylvania State Police Troop F activated its Major Case Team for the criminal investigation. Police were assisted by Coudersport Ambulance and Coudersport-based paramedics.
Connolly was arraigned in Coudersport District Court and remanded to Potter County Jail. Bail was denied.
