ST. MARYS — The Bradford High boys’ golf team battled to a 222-222 tie with Elk County Catholic on Thursday.
Elk County Catholic was declared the second tiebreaker. The first tiebreaker was sixth man, which was also tied, with the Crusaders winning on the second tiebreaker, which was low overall score, which went to Marcus Muccio with a 36.
This was a 19-stroke improvement for the Owls from the previous time they competed against the Crusaders.
“Our coaches were pleased at how the guys played,” said Bradford coach Travis Faulkner. “We had one birdie, nine pars and 33 bogeys as a team.”
Tarren Reese once again led the Owls with a 41.
“He continues to play at a level that will put him in a good position at Districts,” Faulkner said.
Alex Pilon shot a 43 with two pars and six bogeys.
“Alex really played a nice round today. He was hitting good iron shots to help his round,” Faulkner said.
Danny Marasco shot a 44 to bring his average down. Marasco, who is in his first year of high school golf, had two pars and five bogeys.
Freshman Jamin Bell shot a career low of 46.
“He came up big for us today,” Faulkner said. “He had his first par of the season and leads our team in bogeys.”
Rounding out the scoring was Mitchell Brinsky with a 48.
“He just missed an eagle on hole nine but sunk the putt for a birdie,” Faulkner said.
Ean Wright shot 50 and AJ Lama had a 52 to back up their scoring teammates.
“We are still giving up too many shots off the tee box but are improving our iron play,” Faulkner said.
The Owls are back in action on Saturday at the Bradford Invitational at the Pennhills Club. There will be 18 teams and three golfers per team, with some individuals playing as well.
