AUSTIN — Sinnemahoning State Park will offer several free, public programs over the Labor Day weekend.
From 7 to 8 o’clock tonight, catch “The Incredible Journey of the Butterflies” at the campground amphitheater. Join a park naturalist and learn about the monarch butterflies’ long migration to Mexico.
Then from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, a monarch butterfly presentation will be followed by a short walk to catch, tag and release monarch butterflies. Aerial nets provided. Wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to walk through fields. All ages are welcome; meet at the Wildlife Center Classroom.
Hourlong pontoon tours of Stevenson Reservoir are scheduled Sunday. Group size is limited. To reserve a seat, pre-register. Pre-registration is not required but is strongly recommended. There is no fee for regular Sunday interpretive pontoon boat tours, but donations are requested. Tour times are 9 to 10:15 a.m., 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., and 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Meet at the lake day use area.
Learn more about cell phone nature photography from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. Modern smartphones come equipped with powerful cameras that can create spectacular nature photos. Learn some tips and tricks to harness the power in your pocket and spend some time practicing creating images in the park. Participants will need a smart phone with a camera to participate. Meet at the Wildlife Center.
